Jürgen Wittdorf
In 1964, Jürgen Wittdorf created the series "Youth and Sport" as a commissioned work for the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig. At just 32 years old, he achieved a masterpiece in the form of large-format woodcuts and linocuts – impressive both artistically and technically. The series also reveals a political dimension: competitive sports were used for propaganda purposes in East Germany. Wittdorf, himself homosexual, could not express this openly – his homoerotic depictions went unnoticed by the cultural officials.

Artist of the Month
Sergey Sovkov
Sergey was born in Kyshtym, Russia, in 1972 and discovered his passion for painting, especially of male figures, at an early age. Alongside his regular schooling, he attended an art school, but was unable to complete his studies due to time constraints. After graduating from high school, he studied art education at the University of Togliatti, graduating in 1997. He then worked there for 17 years as an assistant, lecturer, and finally professor of composition and painting.
Since 1995, Sergey has participated in national and international exhibitions. His works are represented in museums, the international "Cultural Heritage" fund, and private collections worldwide.
In 2014, he became a self-employed artist. A year later, he met his future husband, Erwin Sovkov, and in 2017 moved to Vienna to be with him. Together, they now run the art studio "Blue Doves".
